ABOUT THE JOB:

This role requires leadership, organization, and problem-solving skills with the ability to coach, train and engage. The key objectives of the “Operations Trainer” are to support safety, logistics and operations functional areas, lead the driver apprentice program for participants, develop, and deploy standard work instructions (SWI’s) for Operational Tasks, focusing on delivery, return and installation, HVAC and field service, supporting DOT and other regulatory compliance and the Willscot (WS) business. 
Reefer Repair Technician is a specialized mechanic responsible for maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing refrigerated transport units—commonly known as "reefers"—used in trucks, trailers, and shipping containers to keep perishable goods at controlled temperatures.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING:

  • Inspection & Maintenance: Perform routine inspections and preventative maintenance to ensure optimal functionality of reefer units 1.
  • Diagnostics & Repair: Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration-related issues in transport refrigeration systems 1.
  • Documentation: Accurately complete work orders and maintenance records, documenting all repair activities 1.
  • Monitoring: Monitor temperature readings and energy consumption data, addressing anomalies promptly 1.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with operations and logistics teams to maintain a reliable fleet of reefers and ensure seamless transport operations 1.
  • EBITDA Performance – Identify areas of revenue growth, cost efficiencies and compliance opportunities through preventive measures such as inspections, repairs, training.
  • Work closely with operations, logistics, and managers to identify training needs and customize programs to meet operational requirements.
  • Design and implement comprehensive training programs for transport, service and installation of modular offices, FLEX, fencing, Clearspan structures, Climate controlled storage, and other product lines
  • Assist in the execution, implementation, and evolution of our company-wide logistics initiatives.  
  • Provide consistent training for Driver Apprentices, new drivers, Set-up Techs, and teams.
  • Provide train-the-trainer support to local driver trainers, Field Service Technicians (FST’s), HVAC Tech’s and Set Teams (including perimeter solutions).
  • Act as a subject matter expert in safety, logistics and operations (D&I processes).
  • Assist with safety, coaching on job functions training and engagement of existing drivers, service technicians, set-up techs and teams.
  • Assist with Complex (CPX) install Program, including development of SWI’s, SOP’s, time studies, and development of training materials for CPX modular, Flex install and knockdown program.
  • Assist with Field Service improvement programs, including development of SWI’s, direct training for HVAC tasks, process improvement and cost saving opportunity identification
  • Assist with Driver Qualification files (on-boarding and maintenance) for new hires and current employees.
  • Conduct check-ins and maintain accurate documentation of driver apprentice program
  • Conducts safety audits, inspections on and hazard analysis of transportation, service and installation/knockdown activities at the branch’s, on the road, and customer job sites to ensure compliance.
  • Review accident investigation and preventive measures implemented for the purpose of avoiding re-occurrence.
  • Champions and fosters employee involvement and teamwork. Hands-on leadership; regularly engages with all levels of employees.
  • Manage inbound calls and emails related to DOT and driver safety
  • Onboard M&A new drivers and technicians facilitating all required check ins, verifications, training and coaching for the role.
  • Maintain records of all training sessions, certifications, assessments, and individual performance evaluations.
  • Acts as a liaison to the field by offering real-time support with field service-related challenges  
  • Generate reports for management on training progress, participant feedback, and any issues or successes in training delivery.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of refrigeration systems, electrical circuits, and mechanical components.
  • Certifications: EPA certification for handling refrigerants is often required.
  • Experience: Typically requires 2+ years of experience in a similar role.
  • Complies with all Willscot Safety, Transportation, and Environmental Policies (OHSA, EPA, DOT) and regulations.
  • Carrier and Thermo King experience preferred (but not required)
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or technical certification is a plus.
  • Previous experience in technical training, installation, field service, or driver training, ideally within industries handling modular structures, fencing, or mobile office installations.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, modular assembly, basic welding, and maintenance practices.
  • Experience with CDL training, OSHA, and DOT regulations relevant to fleet and field service operations. HVAC or welding certifications highly desirable
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to clearly explain technical concepts and procedures.
  • Proficiency in developing training materials, using LMS, and delivering engaging training sessions in both classroom and field settings.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and a commitment to safety.
  • Awareness of safety compliance requirements including local and US laws, DOT regulations, international and industry standard 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in modular construction or similar products, including tent assembly, fencing, or mobile office setup.
  • 3+ year(s) driving in the modular / storage industry
  • Complex, section modular install and knock down experience preferred
  • The ability to use or learn programs such as Microsoft suite, SAP, Salesforce, Concur.
